At MOWADITA (Movement of Women with Disabilities in Tanzania), we are committed to creating an inclusive society where women and girls with disabilities enjoy equal rights, opportunities, and dignity. We implement diverse initiatives to empower, educate, protect, and amplify the voices of women and girls with disabilities across Tanzania. Our key areas of focus include:

Advocacy and Rights Protection
We advocate for the recognition, respect, and protection of the human rights of women and girls with disabilities. We work closely with government institutions and civil society to influence policy and ensure disability issues are mainstreamed in national and local agendas.
We engage in the following advocacy and rights protection activities:
-
✅ Policy Engagement & Legal Reform:
We actively participate in reviewing, shaping, and influencing national and local policies, laws, and regulations to ensure they are inclusive of women and girls with disabilities. We advocate for the domestication and implementation of international human rights treaties such as the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). -
✅ Strategic Alliances:
We collaborate with government ministries, Members of Parliament, local authorities, and legal bodies to raise awareness and push for reforms that recognize and safeguard disability rights in health, education, employment, and political representation. -
✅ Legal Aid and Support:
We support women and girls with disabilities to access legal assistance, report abuse or violations of their rights, and seek justice. We also provide referrals and linkages to institutions that offer legal representation and psychosocial support. -
✅ Human Rights Education & Campaigns:
We conduct public awareness campaigns, forums, and dialogues to educate communities, families, and duty-bearers about the rights of women and girls with disabilities. These initiatives aim to challenge harmful norms, reduce stigma, and foster inclusive attitudes. -
✅ Monitoring & Reporting Violations:
We monitor cases of discrimination, violence, and exclusion affecting women with disabilities and document these for reporting to relevant authorities, media, and international platforms. -
✅ Empowering Women as Advocates:
We train and mentor women with disabilities to become advocates and community champions who speak up, influence decisions, and drive change at local, regional, and national levels.
