Who We Are

Action Against Poverty (AAP) is a non-governmental, non-partisan, voluntary, and non-profit organization established to empower communities and address social and economic challenges in Tanzania. Initially registered on March 9th, 2009 under the Societies Act CAP. 337 R.E. 2002, AAP was re-registered under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act, 2002 on July 17th, 2019 (Registration No. 00NGO/R2/00062). We envision a society with the capacity to address its social and economic challenges while building resilience and self-reliance.

AAP currently implements programs focusing on women, youth, and marginalized groups, empowering them through sustainable livelihoods, economic governance, health initiatives, and social protection. Our activities have been piloted in Temeke District (Mbagala and Toangoma wards) with plans to expand nationwide.

ABOUT AAP

We believe that lasting change comes from building the capacity of communities to solve their own challenges. Through our programs, we foster self-reliance, encourage the use of local resources, and strengthen social cohesion, enabling communities to actively participate in their development.

AAP’s approach combines economic empowerment, social protection, and capacity building. We work closely with local communities to implement initiatives in urban agriculture, poultry farming, livelihood mentorship, health, peace, and governance. By integrating these elements, we aim to create holistic solutions that improve food security, generate sustainable income, and protect the rights and dignity of every individual.

Our work is guided by the belief that poverty is not just a lack of resources but a complex issue linked to inequality, access to opportunities, and social exclusion. Therefore, AAP strives to provide practical, inclusive, and innovative interventions that address both immediate needs and long-term development goals.

Through partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, community groups, and the private sector, AAP has successfully piloted programs in Temeke District and plans to expand to other regions of Tanzania. Our vision is to create a society capable of addressing social and economic challenges, where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and contribute positively to their community.
